let's check on your weather now eileen on camera from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team. see the screen information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: the heaviest rains have tracked out showers tracking through off and on today. it is still mild... temps are in the 40s this morning and the winds are still pretty breezy... 15 to 20 mph from the south.. where they will likely stay most of the day, gusting higher. we will also keep some showers in the forecast...they will be fairly scattered. we could have some clearing by late afternoon, but we have more may not last long. we may not warm up much, but we will be mild today with breezy south winds helping get temps hard to get rid of... i'll have more coming up in a few minutes. happening today... we expect the trial to begin for a former substitute teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

after having a relationship with a student at washington high school in cedar rapids. while she admitted to having the relationship -- she's pleaded not guilty in the case. there will be no jury in the trial. a former police officer is due in court today as he awaits a second murder trial. university of cincinnatti officer ray tensing is accused in the 2015 shooting death of sam dubose. tensing's first trial ended with a hung jury. an accident that left one person injured.. it happened over the weekend between u-s 63 and 2-18 in waterloo. this is a picture from the iowa d-o-t. the crash blocked the roadway for some time early sunday morning. a burlington coat factory employee is taken to the hospital after a car crashes into the store. according to las vegas police, the car trapped the employee between a wall and a register. police say the 61-year old driver was parked in

hit the gas, turning into the building. they're calling it an accident. thanfully, the employee is expected to recover. another car slams into a convenience store. take a look police in caalifornia say the driver's brakes became stuck... causing her to crash into the building. luckily, the store was closed at the time of the crash and no one got hurt. hundreds gather to remember the death of a fallen deputy. funeral services were held in florida for deputy eric oliver. he was chasing a suspect when he "when one passes, we all elfe it. but when you pass while serving, when you leave this earth a warrior's death, we -- the ones left here behind - we stand and honor you with everything we've got." the deputy worked for the sheriff's office for seven years. he leaves behind his parents, wife, and six-year-old daughter.

carolina. police say the man was found inside the club -- where he was shot multiple times. he was rushed to the hospital, but later died. police say it's too early to talk about possible suspects or their motive. cuba is preparing to pay tribute to fidel castro. the revolutionary leader who turned to communism and defied eleven u-s presidents died friday at the age of 90. thousands are expected to visit havana's revolution plaza starting today to honor the late leader. ashes will be taken around cuba until his funeral next sunday. we expect to learn more today about the timeline for presidential election recounts. green party candidate jill stein filed paperwork in wisconsin asking for a recount there. election workers in wisconsin say there's no evidence voter results were hacked or machines were compromised. they add it will be difficult to finish the recount by the deadline of december 13th. here's what wisconsin's governor

the army notified tribal leaders that all federal lands north of the river will be closed to the public next monday for "safety concerns." the agency says those who choose to stay.. do so at their own risk. a march was held in washington d-c to support the dakota pipeline protests. several activists held a slow-moving "water is life" march. demonstrators spoke out against the treatment of the protesters in north dakota.. protests continue in college's refusal to fly the american flag. the mayor joined veterans in protest this weekend over the decision. after several incidents involving the american flag since the presidential election, the college board voted to stop flying any flag on campus for of respect no matter what way you think or not think. it is because of our veterans." students can still fly their own

amateur videos from syria show the effects of an airstrike on a factory in aleppo. smoke can be seen rising from piles of rubble covering the streets next to the building's ruins. a factory worker said russian and syrian warplanes destroyed the factory with missiles, killing the director and another worker... and injuring ten others. that report has not been independently verified. about 2-hundred people were evacuated from their homes in italy people heard a rumble as a wall collapsed on the side of a hill. 35 people stayed inside a church -- while more people moved to the homes of relatives or friends. the city had been hit by heavy rain and floods in recent days. a device explodes in front of an italian military police station. it happened just hours before the italian prime minister matteo renzi was expected to visit the city. nobody was injured, but the building was damaged. authorities are investigating.

together to do something new this year for the holidays. check out this christmas light display. the entire community of sumner came together this year to set this up in their park. this is their first year sumner is doing this. people can drive around the display... and parts of it are even animated... so it dances on display took a month to set up... "it was a lot of work. a lot of cords. i never knew how many lights can go out. and you have really fun to do even though it was a lot of work." sumner says this is just the beginning. they hope to grow the display each year. they're working to become one of the most lit-up towns in iowa. the town's main street is also decorated for the holidays. the light display is free. donations will be accepted. the display will be on every night from 5 to 9 through december

stormtrack7 live weather network cameras are pretty hazy out there in most of the viewing area. we keep some drizzle, some showers and breezy conditions today with another round of showers possible on wednesday... all from the same system! the heaviest rainfall has tracked to the east... we saw everng viewing area... many of the areas in green saw over half an inch with some approaching an inch. it is mild out there... temps are in the 40s, with a few 50s ahead of the cold front that will eventually track through. winds are breezy... mainly 15 to 25 mph early this morning with gusts to 30 mph...

their doors around nine o-clock last night -- telling them to stay inside. the teen is expected to be okay. a fire destroys a barn. it happened yesterday afternoon near vinton. firefighters say the barn's feed shed caught fire and it spread to the main milking area. nobody and no animals were hurt -- but vinton's fire chief says the damage to the building was extensive. two people are hurt after a driver loses control while changing lanes. the linn county sheriff says they were called to highway yesterday afternoon. they say 56-year- old lori billmeyer was driving with her 86-year-old mother when the car rolled. both women were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. they were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. a family is grieving after their loved one was killed in a crash this weekend. 22 year old kaitlyn hall was coming home from work. the car she was riding in hit the back of a police suv--killing
