school district issued this statement to kron 4 news about the superintendent testifying saying, quote, we have witnessed superintendent ford mortal demonstrate both compassion and strong leadership. she continues to meet with parents, students, educators and community groups representing all perspectives and has personally attended many community gatherings to share in the grief and hurt that defines the time. she has consistently and clearly articulated procedures for affected students, parents and educators to follow. in the newsroom. terry says stasio kron 4 news. the city of richmond has passed a resolution for the state to jump start a non-profit electric company instead of pg and e. >> the vote is symbolic. but the vice mayor says that for years now the city is had to deal with power outages and problems, including the failure. pga need to supply energy to city parks. in a statement pg and e says that it does not support the idea

of a statewide public utility because pg e says that this type of ownership framework would not benefit customers. taxpayers, local communities or california's economy. >> city of oakland will have to pay more than 2 million dollars to an employee after a jury decided the city failed to protect her from harassment. at a senior center in the lawsuit. the victim, patricia descano said that she reported a supervisor for sexually harassing her to the city's human services department. this was back in 2016, but attorneys representing toscano say nothing was done about that situation. the city will have to pay or 2.6 million dollars. there's another twist in the showdown between san francisco and oakland over the planned renaming of oakland's airport. >> its an 11th hour offer by san francisco to collaborate on a new name in order to avoid litigation. oakland wants to rename its airport, san francisco bay oakland airport, but san francisco says it would be trademark infringement and is suing kron

four's. catherine heenan is in the newsroom with the latest twist in this saga high just to its ongoing well, they offer to talk. this odd is happening on the eve of a final vote on the name change. >> oakland officials apparently are set to finalize the name change tomorrow. weather san francisco likes it or not. the argument basically the port of oakland nothing wrong with adding san francisco to oakland airport's name the city of san francisco disagrees that already filed a federal lawsuit saying the new name would only cause confusion and chaos. i asked city attorney david chiu about today's offer to collaborate which so far seems to be going nowhere. he says it's not as though they haven't been tried. >> we have been off rain for weeks since oakland first proposed this renaming and unfortunately oakland has continued to rebuff our which is extremely disappointing.

including the endangered species act and helping to launch the first-ever earth day. i was fortunate to be able to interview him a few years back. he is survived by his wife and 4 children. for your local election headquarters. and now to a big fight over a major ballot measure that would make it tougher for local and state governments to raise taxes. today, the california supreme court officially took up a gavin newsom backed lawsuit calling on justsce is to remove the measure from the ballot. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has more. meeting in san francisco justices on the california supreme court. >> heard arguments supporting and opposing the taxpayer protection and government accountability act or tpa. they specifically must decide whether to take it off the november ballot. the proposed measure already qualified for the upcoming november ballot with more than 1 million signatures turned supporters note, if passed, the measure would require voters to

approve every new state tax increase or new state feet proposed by the state legislature or local governments. it would also change the voter threshold for local citizen run tax initiatives from a simple majority to at least two-thirds majority needed to but governor gavin newsom and democratic members of the legislature say the measure is illegal because they believe it was significantly revise the california state constitution. it would prevent government from doing its job. that's why newsom says he filed a lawsuit asking the california supreme court to consider removing the measure from the november 2024 ballot. attorney mark or printing represented the governor during oral arguments at the high court. if taxing subject to voter approval. >> it might become impossible and it would certainly be delayed for for the legislature to try pass a balanced budget, raise revenues that are necessary on the other side, attorney thomas hi-tech represented the

measure's proponents, including the howard jarvis taxpayers association. >> they want the measure to remain on the ballot, our constitution since its inception. >> has stated that all political power inherent in the people. >> and what tpa does its recent war, not only the people's power to have check and balance on that requires the legislature to be part of that process. that's accountability. assembly speaker robert remus and former senate president pro tempore toni atkins signed onto the lawsuit, urging the court to strip the measure from the ballot. they wrote the amount of harm this measure could cause is vast and would hamper local government in our state's ability to function. but republican assembly minority leader james gallagher disagrees. he says the governor is trying to take away the voters ability to decide for themselves. he's fine with taking away your right to vote. >> on the ballot in november. so, look, i think people see the hypocrisy and they're just not buying his book. >> now the ball is in the court of the 7 justices on the state supreme court. among

>> a lot of folks been scrambling for the shel ers as they've seen a tornado warnings popping up in many neighborhoods. and you've got another strong line of storms on the way. so very active out there right now. we've got watches up for tornadic activity in those areas. and you can see right now all these areas, all the circles, these reports from people talking about all the huge hail, they've seen a tornado, funnel clouds, you name it. they've seen just about everything out there. gusty winds over 65 miles per hour. of course, tornados. yeah, that's a major concern tonight as there are watches and warnings up across the area. some of the signatures being picked up on the doppler radar showing possible tornadoes in that area. nashville. they're right now looking at flash flooding in that area with some very, very heavy rain. more storms for the south, more tornadoes possibly being picked up on the doppler radar. nothing hitting the ground yet, but we're starting to see a little circulation in some of these cells. and that's why we're watching those very closely as of those could very well produced tornadoes that could soon touch the ground here very shortly. active weather continuing across the country

and it's going to march just a little further to the south and the east. you see the areas expected to see the worst of for now. and then tomorrow i think we head further east. you can see storms start to make their way seaboard. very active noon again tomorrow, guys of the possibility of more damaging storms. federal prosecutors are examining whether tesla misled investors and consumers about the car's self-driving capabilities. >> department of justice is investigating statements made by tesla officials, including ceo elon musk suggesting the cars can drive are not fully autonomous. prosecutors trying to determine if the company committed securities or wire fraud in making those claims. tesla is not commenting on the investigation. the autopilot features been linked to hundreds of crashes.
