for a lot of spots this morning. so great chance to go on the jog before we heat things up later on today. quite our just one of many spots that is sitting under did nothing but sunshine fact. skies are crystal clear across the entirety of the bay area. temperatures are in the 60's for spots like alameda and berkeley with a few 40's in the mix for areas in the north bay like santa rosa and petaluma oakland, you're at 51 degrees right now. later on today, daytime highs are going to be in the 60's 70's to low 80's at the very warmest. i'm going to be talking even warmer weather just around the corner at some temperatures that we haven't felt in quite some time. i'll get to that. still to come, reyna harvey is standing by with a look at the roads. all right, john, thank you for that. well, tracking in accident along eastbound highway 4. >> that's at hillcrest avenue out. and and really receive a bigger delay along the westbound side, the air. and that's from traffic building. if you are going to be traveling, keep that in mind. a few problem spots highway 4, a bridge right now, 19 minutes

into the city. no accidents, no hazards on bridges. could news 90 min run up from 15, a 80 to 101 traveling across towards peninsula. the richmond sandra fell bridge. 13 minutes tolls to 101. and the golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls about 22 reasons. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. let's get to the breaking news. a big water main break is causing a mess. enrichment is yeah. that water rushing onto several streets with kron four's will tran in richmond with the latest. will. >> if they have stopped the water from rushing onto the streets and now they are cleaning up and they're getting to it. you can see james. >> that particular section, we're not exactly sure. and the crew members obviously are focusing on that. but look how the road just rises a little bit. and it buckles. we do know the water, obviously, thousands of gallons of it came right to the surface and look at the mud underneath that black car right there underneath a white pickup truck. often the distance, this whole neighborhood is a

mask. this is at 47th and carlson and the home said the right of your screen. according to east bay mud and they are handling this. the homes don't have any water at this particular time. i asked him how long is it going to take to restore the water? and they say they simply don't know. it might take some excavation, obviously for them to break the road, get down and fix the pipe and they don't know what caused the pipe to burst. but it burst at around 5 o'clock in the morning and over the past hour, they were able to shut off the water. of course. and now comes the repair work. so this neighborhood here they could be without water for quite some time. and it does stretch for several blocks. but they turn off the water and thankfully the water went down. so the cars driving by here, they're not driving through a pool of water, but nonetheless, they will be driving through a lot of mud because clearly see all of that mud and debris came right to the surface. back to yeah,

all right. thank you very much. well, >> well, here you see the hundreds of students gathered at sproul plaza at u c berkeley tuesday, calling for an end to the war in the middle east. this large demonstration came as israeli troops seize the palestinian side of the rafah border crossing a vital entryway for humanitarian aid. >> those camping out say they have been protesting the war since it started 7 months ago and they will continue to hold rallies until there's a cease-fire at this rally. the encampment has expanded their more tense going up during finals week. >> finals. i'm graduating this semester. >> but none of that matters you know, people halfway across the world are, you know, are being killed just indiscriminately. >> campus police have been patrolling the area. they say as long as the encampment in the rallies remain peaceful,

they have no reason to move the students so they can stay. >> in the south bay, one man is dead and another in jail after a driver ran a red light in south san jose and crashed into a cyclist. this well, this now marks the 17th fatal traffic death this year in san jose kron four's jack moment takes a closer look. >> locals in san jose. you could hardly hear yourself think on capital rest. the ice is racy. lolo farfan has worked at the jack in the box for 9 she has a front row seat to the may have read. he gets a lot of traffic. is is begun. gives she says crashes here happen all the time. but just before 7.30, tuesday card that backed up. that the i spoke. >> driver running a red light. just like many cars did during our day reporting here, except this time the car crashed into a cyclist killing them on the

scene. it's frustrating for safe streets. advocates back siegel capital has been a problematic spot for traffic deaths in san jose. this traffic death, the san jose's 17th for the year and that's outpacing the city's rate of murder. >> the city is meeting, its goals. and i think we need to look at it with a fresh set of eyes. >> siegel says despite work done to fix some of san jose's wide roads, the city is not prioritizing issue. one that was created, he says by design, but they had the ability to break the law. they they were. >> funnel to the intersection, really made it easy for them to. >> to come there until the mayor's office sent us a statement that blames reckless and distracted driving, quote. >> moments like this are tragic reminder that speeding may save a minute but slowing down literally saves lives. and for siegel with this being the 3rd traffic death in just 2 weeks. >> more action is needed now more than we as a community to

you to make it clear to city hall where our priorities are. >> and it's for safety above saving. a couple minutes >> now the driver of that truck was booked into santa clara county jail on several different charges. meantime, the identity about cyclist who was killed here in san jose, their identity is still being withheld by police until they can notify their family. for now, we're here in san jose jack molmud kron. 4 news. >> police are investigating. also another fatal crash that happened yesterday in san jose. this was about 8.30, >> highway, near trumbull road traffic logs says that this was a fatal crash that happened here and that for a time both the on and off-ramps it from the roads were closed hp investigated. in the east bay. a person involved in a car crash over the weekend was found shot inside their car in this solo crashed the car crashed on sunday night on benedict drive. and when police responded, that's when they found the driver in the car

with a gunshot wound. and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. they believe that the shooting happened in this area and then the crash happened to anybody with information is asked to contact the police. >> employees at an east bay, mcdonald's are on strike after the health department forest that restaurant to close because of a rat infestation. and they're asking the owners now to hire professionals to clean up the masks inside. they say they'll resume work once their demands are met. mcdonald's is says that during the shutdown, people who were scheduled to work will be paid, although the workers outside said that was news to them. in the north bay. a month-long pilot program is underway now in the city of vallejo, nebraska street between amador and pierce streets will be closed for through traffic on school days. the road will be closed

from 9 o'clock until and for the afternoon. so the entire school day, the closures in response now to several shootings that they've seen their frequent speeders as well, which is made it pretty dangerous for kids. students are hoping this project will work. >> safer for us to. >> you know, just walk over here freely without having wear a watch. our backs in u.s.. >> well, neighbors close to the schools, though, are nervous that the closure on nebraska street will send to those speeding cars down their streets. the pilot program will run until june. 7th will see what it

has passed a resolution for the state to use a nonprofit electric company instead of pg and e this vote is symbolic. but the vice mayor says that it's just to make a point that for years the city has dealt with power outages and problems, including the failure of pg and e to supply energy to city parks. >> we we don't see as response. especially low-income communities and communities of color. that say that reliable and say these the think i but the ways to really take. the power. way from corporation. in a

>> time now is 7.13, and we're looking at the weather and things are really going to be warming up the next few yeah, temperatures climb into what heights, john, what you think? >> i mean, we could get close if not to 90 degrees for a couple of spots for the state land towards the tail end of this week. and it is definitely going to be hotter than we felt in quite some time. no weekend. cooldown like we had last week. this is your look outside at san jose. just like the rest of the bay area. skies are crystal clear overhead from the coast to our inland areas. nothing getting in the way that sunshine

actually have a pretty sizable system in the northern rockies right now with some really heavy late season snowfall across some of those northern states, that same system is going to be starting off in offshore wind leader off this on this week. those winds working their way from the east of us to the coast is really what's going to bump up temperature so significantly in the days to come. we already do have wind advisories today for solano county, parts of napa and sonoma counties as well. and we are going to see the offshore wind really kicking into gear later. it's a northerly wind right now and it is also contributing to gale warnings and some of our coastal waters that i want you to be aware of as well. now, today's daytime highs are certainly on the rise will be close to 70 if not 2.70, for a lot of spots right along the coastline. and then 70's to 80's for the rest of the bay temperatures today. noticeably warmer than yesterday in some cases as much as 10 degrees warmer south bay temperatures. you're included in that yesterday was low 70's today. it's low 80's while fremont,

right? 80 degrees livermore, not the warmest just yet. you're holding off. still at 77. it's about the same as will be in oakland and berkeley. while vallejo at 78 degrees. pittsburgh napa's will santa rosa in the low 80's. looking ahead tomorrow as temperatures rise near 90 degrees. and that's the way we'll stay through saturday for our inland areas with some sp80's right along the bay shore, too. you can see those offshore wind's really kicking into gear towards thursday with some of our coastal temperatures even climbing to the 70's later this week reyna. all right, john, thank you for that a little slow and go along highway 4. >> eastbound side where we have an accident. so eastbound and hillcrest avenue in india. thankfully, that accident is not a little further down, but you're also seeing delays along the westbound side, not in relation to that accident. so about 40 minutes, antioch, traveling to conquer. if you're taking the westbound side and be mindful, there's accident on the eastbound side in antioch, a bridge right now. 23 minute, right? so last check in. we're still at 18

sell its u.s. operations by the deadline leaving litigation has its best hope to maintain its u.s. market. now the lawsuit accuses the government of trampling on tiktok's first amendment rights as well as the free speech rights. millions of millions of americans all under the banner of national security. well, it's teacher appreciation week. it's usually a feel good moment for educators, students and parents. but this year there's a little extra reason for teachers to cheer new data from the national education association shows the teacher scored a 4.1% pay bump and the 2022 to 2023 school year. now that marks the largest year-over-year compensation spike in more than a decade. panera bread says it's phasing out its controversial charged lemonade nationwide. 2 deaths have been linked to drinking the charge. lemonade, a spokesperson for pinera said tuesday that the nationwide is continuation of the drinks comes after a recent menu transformation. daria. all

last year. police say it happened around midnight on east 18th avenue. 2 people were shot. officers say one person named nominee william died at the scene. the other victim was taken to the hospital. no word on the severity of that person's injuries. police also released a picture of the ford f one 50 pickup truck that investigators say belongs to the suspect. if you have any information that could help in this investigation, call police. >> a richmond non profit pogo park has won a state grant to build a new recreation center. and it's going to double as an emergency shelter to they've got a 10 million dollar grant for this program to construct contra costa county's first recreation center and harbor 8 park construction is actually already underway for the harbor hall. and it's expected to be done by t end of this year. the 10 million dollar project will include 6 million for a physical infrastructure, 3 million for programs and events at a million for evaluation and general program

rain is back and glad to see it. hopefully roads are ok in the building. always busy, though. we've got an accident. this is eastbound highway 4. >> right at hillcrest avenue looks like a box truck in a big rig crashed. so, you fuel spill there. what i do know is we do have a live picture of things going on and you can see from the roads. lot of people are slowly making their way through this highway again. and you can see right here, multiple lanes closed. we do know at least 2 lanes are open. so what they're doing now is trying to clean up that fuel that spilled on the highway this morning. hopefully they're able to get off the road pretty quickly here. as you can see, as soon as you get past that things are not as bad on the eastbound side will go back out to the highways. you can see it there. it's really the westbound side of seeing more delays at anything, not in relation to the accident on the eastbound side in any a so once you get past that maybe happened on east 18th street, things are going to be much easier for you. there. checking on the bridges bay bridge right now. 21 minutes into the city. no accidents on

that bridge. san mateo bridge a little under. 26. the richmond, sandra fell bridge around 14 and we'll check on the golden gate bridge. 30's the tolls. 32 minute ride that reaches back to you. all right. thank you very much. 7.31. is the time right now. and we've seen a lot of storms and fire emergencies across the state in recent years. and there's a new bill. >> now in sacramento to create a fund to help people and communities that otherwise do not qualify for assistance. a group of lawmakers introduced a bill to create 100 million dollar. really fun for those people who are eligible for federal or state assistance because of the extent of damages or because of their immigration status, this would establish a 400 million dollars. california local assistance program to help tribal and local governments rebuild after disasters. it's a win-win across the state. hopefully nothing ever

happens. but if it does, we have a plan for our communities that are going to suffer because >> once again, we can't rely on the federal government because of all the bring at least we have our own from here. we should create a sustainable program that will make sure that for any future to know that if they don't qualify for federal assistance, that the state will step in. >> and make sure that these communities are taking care of. the money for the fund would come from the state's current greenhouse gas reduction fund. >> right now, there is no formal opposition to this bill. >> will 2 people including a teenage girl in the hospital. now after truck struck them that hit and run driver apparently took off in san francisco. police had been chasing the drivers through the tenderloin. >> and to north beach, then they stopped the chase and this crash happened right now across 4 studios along the embarcadero kron four's dan kerman has more. it's here along the embarcadero at green street where san francisco

police took the hit and run suspect into custody. this after at least the 3rd incident of the day when the white mustang he was driving slammed into this parked car. no one was injured at this location, but that's not the case that the other locations here chase >> and i'm like police say. it all began just before 08:00am the suspect's vehicle hit a pedestrian near jones and market tire tracks are clearly visible. the victim, an urban alchemy employee, was taken to a local hospital and will survive. police say a few blocks away. officers spotted the suspect's vehicle driving recklessly when the suspect failed. the yield when officers initiated a traffic stop. police say a vehicle pursuit began about 9.30. the chase reached francisco middle school. it's their police say the suspects vehicle hit a 14 year-old girl who was crossing francisco street from the main campus to the auxiliary campus

so that there was crossing the street from building to building and was in the crosswalk. >> and the guy was running out of, you know, running. because the police after so put the good here. if they're going come supervisor. aaron peskin who represents that neighborhood says the girl was taken to san francisco general hospital with a fractured shoulder and ankle. but will survive. it's at that point. police say they shut down the chase to to safety concerns. >> minutes later, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle stopped in embarcadero in green. it's their they took the suspect into custody. francisco police are allowed to conduct vehicle pursuits under certain circumstances with these chase protocols followed in this case, supervisor peskin says both he and the police are evaluating that right now. >> in san francisco, dan kerman kron, 4 at 7.35. is the time in the south bay. police were busy over cinco de mayo weekend arresting more than 90

people in san jose. >> police department says officers. 8.17, felony arrests, 18 warrant arrest and 52 arrests for misdemeanors. they say most of that rhymes committed involved, fistfights, dui sideshows and some reckless behavior. >> we had a significant amount of activities popping up all over the city in which we have to try and utilize resources and take away from the celebrations trying comeback. officers were getting bottles thrown at their vehicles we had officers had been assaulted people driving drunk. we had one vehicle crashed into a patrol was doing a diversion and injured officers. >> yeah. so there are some things they had to deal with. police say 2 people were also stabbed over the weekend. one of them critical condition still. but police say despite that chaos that unfolded this year, they're still looking forward to celebrating the holiday next year. >> where millions of muslims around the world not only for

not >> a com and here's a microphone. >> and >> private party at a house here. this happened last month. it was a dinner happening celebrate the graduation of uc berkeley law. students and these pro-palestine protesters stood up and read a speech about ramadan and the war in gaza and this dinner was being held at the home of berkeley law professors. and you could see in the video, one of those professors taking the microphone away from the student and saying this private home and please leave. according eo nbc news, a uc berkeley is launching a now a civil rights investigation into allegations of harassment by the protester. at san francisco state university president met with the demonstrators, some of whom have been camping on campus. as you can see here because they want the university cut financial ties with israel. president lynn mahoney says the school may consider

company says the devices are faster finner they led screens. fact, the smaller ipad pro. if you're interested, starts at just under $1000, just like $999, the 13 inch ipad pro is right around $1300. all hard, jack. wow. >> all right. 7.38, right and a developing story tiktok is now suing the u.s. government. this after president joe biden signed a law forcing the chinese company that owns tiktok to sell to you a u.s. company or have it banned kron four's. catherine heenan has more. >> we're in some very unusual territory. the u.s. government has passed a law that effectively gives it the right to take away one of the most popular social media. apps in the world in arguing against the new law. tiktok says its app is an important avenue for expression.

>> pointing out that more than 170 million people in the u.s. use. it roughly half the country. it says that by taking away the government is infringing on our first amendment rights. meantime, is there really a significant security threat posed by tiktok? >> what i think is interesting here is that the for the last few years now the government keeps saying there is a national security concern with tiktok and we've heard of this now under republican and democratic presidents and in both cases, we have not gotten the details, right? the government has not made its case to the american public about why this hugely popular app should be banned. it just teams, gesturing and national security. and i think that's part of why this case is going to be so fascinating. >> there were renewed calls to ban tiktok after the october 7th hamas attack. some users saying more anti-semitic content was showing up. others
