visibility issues. we have a little fog last night along the coast that has been long gone and temperatures right now are in the upper 50's for most spots, dublin and pittsburgh. 59 a few low 60's now reappearing for some of our inland areas. later on today, daytime highs will rise into the 70's for pretty much everyone. and after today, that's a lot more 80's in the forecast. i'll talk this warming forecast as we go. daria. >> thanks a lot, john. 10 o'clock in the south bay, a man accused of shooting to san jose police officers faces attempted murder charges. new court documents reveal that kevin briones showed up to a san jose hotel to see a woman used to be in a relationship with and she called the police and then the shootout started. crawford jack moment has more. >> yeah, kind 30 and the night. >> and then the hard some of objects seal says he and his wife are watching tv at the extended stay. america and seemingly right outside their

door. >> and then suddenly some loud noise like the middle noise. i i didn't gunshots people inside and had no idea what did some late. so my dog started barking. that's where i that something really because he's been going on. seal said he thought about calling the cops, but he soon realized what was happening. yeah, really hard it goes going to get see that a shootout. 2 officers shot one of them with just a year of experience on the force. the suspect kevin angelo briones reportedly shot several times. we don't us is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder on the police officers. the police report says the woman briones reportedly showed up for is a domestic violence survivor. >> and says her during this had a previous relationship, 3 young kids were out the hotel with the woman at the time of the shooting. what we had was an armed, dangerous felon showing up in the middle of the night. police say officers stop briones from possibly

hurting the woman and the kids nights events offer a stark reminder. >> of the solemn oath they take to protect and serve our city video. this is a felony, which means if he's convicted, these charges could put him in prison for life. yeah, it is. i think pretty bad for that information. but the city and for seal, he says he and his wife now are worried that staying at the hotel was not a good. >> to hear that it's going to happen now is jack molmud reporting briones was supposed to make his first court appearance yesterday. but he's still in the hospital with his injuries. and so is one police officer in the hospital. 10. 0, 2, is the time right now in other news that we're following. another big story this morning in alameda county sheriff's office dispatcher is being remembered as a loving mother and co worker. she was killed sunday night on her way to work. crowd was will tran has the story live from san leandro. will it happen? darrius she was less than one half mile from work.

>> but she never made it to this location because just right down the road, a car plowed into her, taking her life. so take a look at your screen. here is a picture of the woman, but we are talking about is they are devastated this morning at the alameda county sheriff's office. they actually profile. they're just a couple of weeks ago. her name is antoinette finn now now at 11, 15 on sunday evening, she was heading to work when all of a sudden a car comes out of nowhere. he hits are so hard that the car she was driving in was actually on its side. she was unconscious, rushed to the hospital where she later died. now, here's a location of where it is. so i'm at the sheriff's office here in san leandro into a leandro police department actually rushed out to the scene at east 14th and 100 50th avenue dispatchers. they were waiting for to her for her to arrive. instead, it was dispatchers who got the phone call that something bad happened that day sent

emergency responders to the location. she had been with office for 3 years. a mother, beloved employee. then after she died, her body was taken by procession in the middle of the night, presumably at around monday, early monday morning, procession by the chp, the san diego police department as well as of course, the alameda county sheriff's office to the coroner's office. her family says antoinette was born a star. and the way you took her to this location, he took her like a star and we are grateful. take a look at your screen. this is what the sheriff's office had to say. they are just too heartbroken to go on camera. but this is what they say. in a statement. they said we lost a dedicated, energetic, loving alameda county sheriff's office. family member. she took pride in their work because helping others gave her a joint. as far as the driver who slammed into antoinette p now. well,

right now the investigation is ongoing and they believe that she was, in fact, intoxicated. and she was 32 years old and area. we've been in this business a very long time. as often the case, alleged drunk driver was on and was on injured. >> so much so sad. all right. thanks a lot. and there's driving situation in the south bay, an 11 year-old girl. >> was killed hit by a suspected dui driver in cupertino. and in this case, the girl was one of 4 children standing on a sidewalk on foothill and stevens creek boulevard last month when a pickup truck came up onto the sidewalk and hit the children. that girl was taken to the hospital. she fought for life for several days but didn't make it the other children who were hit did survive their ages. 4, 7, 8, they're okay. the driver was identified as adam loom. and police say that

he was a high, they think when he crashed, but they're waiting for toxicology reports. in the meantime, he bailed out of jail last week. he still out of custody. and so far no criminal charges at this point. we'll keep you posted where that case goes. >> enough to win the somebody shooting out the window of a car and you hear the pops in a minute. this is from the chp i call pop, pop solo. shots fired from a from a guy waiting at gun point to get outside of his car on 5.80, at seminary avenue in oakland. there's the show you where it's certainly this is on march. 29 deal sued again and pointing the gun. >> out of the car, the chp ended up arresting that man. he is dominic, jerome taylor and they think he was driving drunk to when he was arrested. >> oakley police are seeing a spike in car thefts and break-ins. and here's video

lights off, i guess with pg and e that relationship. this is a nonprofit called golden state energy and they think it would better serve the public and if they pass it, richmond will join san francisco in calling on the state of california to take action and address the core problems within pg and e. downtown areas across the state could be getting more housing. there's a new bill looking to require cities to convert historic buildings into housing units. san francisco assembly member matt haney introduced the bill. it would allow state lawmakers to quickly green light office to housing projects and that would put to an end, a lengthy and costly approval process for that. this bill heads to the assembly appropriations committee for a hearing tomorrow. and looking at san francisco, we've all seen a lot business properties go empty and you think well, couldn't leave build housing. and there's not that easy. 10, 11 right now. and still ahead, we've got a follow-up on the

effect tonight at 11:00pm through 08:00am on thursday. this northwesterly breeze as well as contributing to gale warnings up and down the coastline, kicking off today at 03:00pm through tomorrow at 03:00am. if you are heading out that direction now, as far as our temps go today is kind of that picture. perfect sweet spot in between what was a cool weekend and what is about to be a really toasty rest of the forecast. highs in the 60's to low to mid 70's sounds good. low 70's for the south bay at 72 degrees for both stop the santa clara valley and 70 pretty consistently up the east bay shoreline. some of our warmest spots today are going to be conquered as well as pittsburgh fairfield in santa rosa. all at 75 for your daytime highs. tomorrow's temperatures officially back up in the low 80's for some inland spots. and we get close to 90 for inland areas on friday and saturday and some low 80's right along the bay shore on those days. we traded in last weekend's cold showers on saturday for our warmest day of the forecast this

saturday. daria, thanks a lot, john. it's 10, 17 and happening now. san jose police are on the scene of a major >> injury accident at center road and east capitol expressway was shown in the map here where this happened. capitol expressway from 7 trees boulevard to tours road and center road from southside drive to singleton wrote are blocked off in both directions because of this accident. so you do not want to avoid that area. we don't know how many people are injured and that there was a crash there. and tomorrow highway 9 is going to be close to each night for 3 nights in saratoga. while caltrans is making repairs to the saratoga creek bridge, the closures are from 09:00pm to 07:00am each day and then things should be back up and running, completed and open for you to drive by saturday morning. 9 people in mountain view are without a place to live because there was a fire look at this blaze at this apartment complex. the crews

fought the flames on sunday morning on fayette drive and san antonio road. luckily, everybody get out safely, which is good. but there's extensive damage because of that fire. after more than 15 years, prominent vietnamese restaurant, the slanted door is not going to be returning to the san francisco ferry building. they're out the chef charles phan tells kron 4 that he's parting ways with that location because of high construction costs. but he says he ecstatic cited for future projects. slanted door was great. i did go. it was the ferry building. but now if you want to go to slanted or they have to other locations, one in san ramon and the other in napa. >> san francisco officials say for the 3rd time in a row, their quarterly count of tents and structures on city streets is down as kron four's. dan coming imports their pleas with the numbers. but there's still work to be done. >> san francisco's tenderloin is far from 10th free, but a

drive through the area suggests there are fewer tents and encampments than before. and now city data backs that up ever sense. 9th circuit court appeals decision once we started to go into action, we've seen a decline of encampments over 40%. so we're really excited about what this means to the stats show. the number of tents and structures has dropped. >> from 609 in july of 2023 to 361 in april of this year. last week when i was walking around the tenderloin and some of those areas where they are have been some real problems with it encampments. they're gone and you notice the big difference in how the streets look and how they feel when you walk down the streets and how much cleaner they are. and while there may be fewer tense there, still a lot of people on the streets and because of that many who live and work in san francisco still see little change. i literally walked a gauntlet every morning from

the bart station to get here to my so no, i don't see an improvement may be in different areas it is possible, but nothing. this area. the mayor says encampment outreach teams have conducted 242 operations this year. >> and made 1530 encounters with individuals of those. the city says 30% of the time the offer of shelter was accepted. 60% of the time it was refused and 10% of the time individuals were already housed. we've increased our shelter says i've been mayor by 66%. we've increased our housing options by over 50% for people on the where creating the opportunities. and we just need people on the streets where we are offering in to accept what we're offering will encourage. san francisco's mayor is not taking a victory lap. >> she knows there's still more work to be done and she hopes the momentum will continue. in san francisco.

dan kerman kron. 4 news. it's 10 21 and a gun buyback event over the weekend was a big success in san mateo county. >> the sheriff's office took in a record number of guns. nearly 300 guns were turned in. 24 assault weapons for ghost guns and one machine gun people were paid between $5200 depending on the type of firearm. and the sheriff's department plans to have another gun buyback event later this year. no date yet, but will keep you posted. the irs wants you to know that the deadline is here. final warning. if you have money out there you haven't collected and there's a billion dollars left in unclaimed federal tax refunds. they would love to give to you. the agency says 1 million people across the nation. have to make this deadline, though, to get that money may 17th is the deadline to file to get your unclaimed refunds from your 2020 tax year. california is among the states, california, texas,

right now on the peninsula. 3 eniles have been arrested. they're accused of assaulting and robbing a person in san mateo.

>> this happened back on december 22nd near san mateo high school. and the kids are aged 16, 17 20. they assaulted a victim with brass knuckles in a fight and stole his jewelry. the victim was hospitalized with multiple injuries and authorities went to the homes of those kids and they found evidence of the robbery and drugs and an illegal gun. >> today at 11, 30, the mayor of antioch unveils these newly designed. >> glide car prototypes, glide cars. going to be the new transit contra costa county's first on-demand, driverless public transit system. 0 mission, autonomous vehicles they'll travel on. the plan is for them to be on guide ways separated from other traffic and each car can hold up to 4 people guide ways would stretch across pittsburgh, antioch, oakley and brent would. and the goal is to and reduce the traffic congestion on highway 4. the completion. they're eyeing the year 2030.

neighborhood in antioch. this of the area of gentry town drive and putnam street police wanted to arrest. 28 year-old the neighborhood lockdown for several hours while there was a standoff, anyone come out then reopened about 5 o'clock last night with the arrest. all inmates at the federal women's prison in dublin are now out. they've been relocated. the prison, as you know, is going to be closing after a string of abuse that happened, including multiple prison officials charged and some convicted with sexually abusing inmates. 5 of the employees have pleaded guilty. 2 others were convicted, including the former warden who was sentenced last year to 6 years in prison, according to a spokesperson, all of the women have either been transferred now or released. it's 10, 34 and on the peninsula, 17 year-old and an 18 year-old arrested for robbing a safeway in redwood city. this happened sunday

afternoon. the safeway off el camino real in sequoyah high school right there. were called because employees said that there were teenagers. they had a gun and they sold alcohol. they were arrested about a mile away. officers found a lighter that looked like a handgun in the possession of the teenagers. they were booked into the county the younger one taken to the u center. israel begins military operations in the city of rafah hours after hamas accepted an egyptian qatari proposal for a cease-fire. however, israel was not involved in those negotiations. the prime minister says that the proposal is not good enough looking at it. but the israel is sending a negotiator. ys to continue talks to create a cease-fire agreement that everybody can live with. kron four's. rob nesbitt has local reaction.

>> since israel wage war against the terrorist group hamas. 7 months ago, we've seen the impacts of protests from college campuses to the golden gate bridge. samara, robbie, with the arab resource and organizing center has taken part in demonstrations, calling for a cease-fire and was relieved to hear the update monday that hamas accepted an egyptian-qatari proposal for a cease-fire. >> a little bit of hope and some relief, right? the idea that maybe all of this carnage. a tense up can finally end after months and tens of thousands of people that. >> the proposal accepted by hamas called for a permanent cease-fire. u.s. pop of israeli hostages for prisoners and would allow displaced gazans to return to their homes as israel has ordered about 100,000 palestinians evacuate the city of rafah before a ground invasion by militants there. to me, this looks like them trying to pump the brakes on the operation because they know that this is their last holdout. >> last grasp on on power in gaza, executive director of the jewish community relations council bay area. tyler gregory says hamas must be

workers will be affected. but we do know that last month, tesla said it was laying off more than 2700 bay area employees. kron 4 has reached out to tesla, but we haven't heard back yet. if you've ever been at the self-checkout, you know that the there never seems to be enough help. sometimes there is sometimes there's not. there's been a lot of problems. so now lawmakers in sacramento are proposing a law to prohibit grocery stores from offering self checkout lanes. if they don't have enough staff under this plan, self-service checkouts would be limited to purchases of 10 or fewer items and they have to have enough staff to monitor the checkout lanes. >> we have to act now to look at this problem. we want to make sure through our bill sb 14. 46 that we have a full service cashier lane will be open before allowing a self-checkout machine to we want to make sure that we have staffing ratios for one employee to to checkout
