barking. that's where i mean, we knew that something really because he's been going on. seal said he thought about calling the cops, but he soon realized what was happening. yeah, really hard. it does going to get see that a shootout. 2 officers shot one of them with just a year of experience on the force. the suspect to kevin angelo briones reportedly shot several times. we don't us is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder on the police officers. the police report says the woman briones reportedly showed up for is a domestic violence survivor. >> and says her during this had a previous relationship, 3 young kids were out the hotel with the woman at the time of the shooting. what we had was an armed, dangerous felon showing up in the middle of the night. police say officers stop briones from possibly hurting the woman and the kids nights events offer a stark reminder. >> of the solemn oath they take to protect and serve our city video. this is a felony, which means if he's convicted, these charges could put him in

prison for life. yeah, it is. i think pretty bad for that information. but the city and for seal, he says he and his wife now are worried that staying at the hotel. was not a good. >> to that. it's going to happen >> now is chad moment reporting briones was supposed to make his first court appearance yesterday. but he's still in the hospital with the injuries sustained from the encounter with the police. police say one of the officers was treated and released from the hospital. the other is still in critical condition but expected to survive. >> another big story that we're following this morning in alameda county sheriff's office. dispatcher is being remembered now as a loving mother. >> and co-workers. she was killed sunday night by suspected drunk driver while she was on her way to work. kron four's will tran is live in say lander now with the story will. >> duryea the office is mourning her death. get this. she was less than a half-mile away from work when she was hit. 0.4 miles to be exact

from this location and sand the entro. take a look at her picture. a beloved member of the alameda county sheriff's office only 3 years, but they say they will always remember her and that warm smile, her name. and 22 fa now at 11, 15 on sunday night she was heading to work so close to work with all of a sudden she crosses the street in san leandro not knowing that there was a car that would plow through the intersection and hit her so hard. but that the time the dispatchers, their emergency responders arrived, she was unconscious. here's a map of the locations. so this is that's and the end row office for the alameda county sheriff's office. her exact location where she was hit was at east 14th and one 50th street by the time the responders arrived, there are car was on that side. they rushed to the hospital. she was still alive at that time

but or injuries so severe. but ultimately she died from her injuries. the chp, the alameda county sheriff's office, the office or some san leandro police department. they escorted her body. that's how much she meant to them. that's according her body to the coroner's office. while this investigation continues. in the meantime, many people showed up to work at the sheriff's office yesterday when they found out about the news. so take a look at your screen. they released a statement antoinette for now, they say we lost a dedicated, energetic, loving alameda county sheriff's office. family member. she took pride in her work because helping others gave her joy. many people also commented how ironic it was that she was heading to the office to take emergency calls from people to try to give them calm during their moment of crisis when it was her who needed a dispatcher to come out to her as far as the alleged drunk driver. we do know that she's

32 years old and is often the case. this investigation continues. the other person, the alleged drunk driver was not injured. >> and 11 year-old girl was killed. she was hit by a suspected dui driver in cupertino. the girl was one of 4 children standing on a sidewalk on foot, a hill and stevens creek boulevard last month when a pickup truck plowed into them. the girl went to the hospital where she fought for her life for several days. the other children ages 8, 7, 4, are okay. the driver has been identified as adam lou the police say that he was high when he crashed into the kids on the sidewalk. he bailed out of jail last week. but he he remains out of custody so far no criminal charges have been filed against him. detectives are waiting for a toxicology

address what they see our core problems with pg and well, downtown areas across the state could be getting more housing. a new bill is looking to require cities to convert historic buildings into housing units. san francisco assemblymember matt haney introduced the bill that he says it would allow state lawmakers to quickly green light office to housing projects, putting an end to lengthy and costly approval processes. the bill now heads to the assembly appropriations committee for a hearing and that is scheduled for tomorrow. >> time now 6, and today educators in lorenzo are going to rally. they want better pay. they say they're struggling to make a living in the bay area. members of the san lorenzo education association. i want also a better staff, retention and recruitment. they say the lack of teachers and educators is affecting the student's education. that rally is going to be a today at 4 in front of the san lorenzo unified school district. >> okay, 609, is the time when a small business owner in the east bay is searching for answers now after some of his

despite just a few clouds, especially towards the coastline. now in chance of rain or snow is being sent well away from us. well, to the north of us, these next 7 to 10 days, really. so this high-pressure ridge certainly winning out and that is contributing to that warm up. we're talking a little bit breezy, though. in fact, we do have a high wind advisory for solano county going into effect tonight at 11:00pm through 08:00am on thursday. could have some very strong winds through the central valley and through the delta as well as highs. 45 to even 50 miles per hour gas today, though, daytime highs, 60's to 70's a little bit warmer than yesterday. a lot more 70's on the map here in just a moment. anyways, starting from saint carlos through the south bay and on into the east bay. that does make today a little warmer than yesterday, but still a little cooler than average, especially for inland areas. livermore only at 71 today and walnut creek only at 74. you know, we've got hotter temperatures just around the corner. so if you are inland,

>> we are back 6.25. is the time in the north bay. a man is dead following a shooting in vallejo. police say it happened about 7.30, sunday night on north camino alto. >> cause that shooting still under investigation. police haven't given any details yet about a suspect. 9 people in mountain mount view are without a home after their apartment complex caught fire.

>> video shows crews here fighting the flames sunday morning. this is on fayette drive in san antonio road. officials say residents were able to get out safely, but there was extensive damage to the building. in fact, about a million dollars in damage. they estimate the red cross now is providing temporary housing for those 9 residents cause of fire still under investigation. a gun buyback event over the weekend was a success for san mateo county. the sheriff's office says they recorded a record number of nearly 300 guns turned in. >> 24 assault weapons for ghost guns and a machine gun all turned in through this buyback program where they paid out anywhere from 50 to $200 depending on the firearm. sheriff's department says they plan to host another gun buyback this year. haven't set a date for that just yet. but this is the 60 year now of the program. >> is 6.26 and america's worst city to drive in is right here in the bay area. according to a recent study from forbes advisor.

learning more now about the health code violations that forced the shutdown. >> of a mcdonald's in oakland. yeah. officials say they found indications of rat activity including dropping this even dead rat. we want to warn you and might find this story. disturbing kron four's less the good and has more. >> on friday, the alameda county health department shut down this mcdonald's at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland with customers waiting in line on from the health department. they have some sanitation the season they need to clean up. >> and we saw inspector filling out this health report. it reveals that 7 violations were found at the restaurant, including rodent activity. >> the report explains rodent droppings were seen around the water heater along the walls and wrote it. traps responded as well to hold were seen in the kitchen and a dead rat was found on a trap near the soda syrup boxes. we feel like. >> a lot of more rats than the past that last time this is oscar rodriguez who has worked there since 2022. and says the

>> time now 6.34 and today the man accused of killing a shop owner in san francisco's richmond district. we'll have his preliminary hearing. santos de la rosa is accused of beating to death. sixty-year-old johan us to wal d with a baseball bat outside of this convenience store on balboa street. this was in august of last year. police say that while they tried to stab de la rosa from shoplifting and he ended up dying of his injuries 5 days after he was delarosa faces charges including murder and assault with a deadly weapon. the court hearing set for 9 o'clock this morning. in pacifica. 2 people were injured in a 3 vehicle crash that involve involved. a suspected drunk driver. it happened around 5 o'clock yesterday on highway one near fassler avenue. when police got there, 2 other drivers involved in the crash had to be treated for their injuries. the 29 year-old from san francisco who was arrested was booked into the san mateo county jail on dui charges.

>> well, san jose police say 2 people have died as a result of 2 separate crashes. that happened back in april in the first crash on april 27th along various road near capitol avenue was a toyota corolla that hit a honda suv is that corolla was trying to cross multiple lanes to turn into a parking lot. the passenger in the honda was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and she succumbed to those injuries on may. 2nd. the second crash happened on april. 30th on south 10th street right near in san jose state campus. in that case, a man riding an electric scooter in the opposite direction of traffic hit a tesla that was making a left turn onto elizabeth street that crashed through the scooter rider into traffic where he was hit by another vehicle. that rider was taken to the hospital and died. also on may 2nd, the deaths marked the city's 15th and 16th fatal crashes this year. will san francisco officials say for the 3rd time in a row, their quarterly count of tents and structures

on city streets is actually drop. john crawford, dan kerman takes a closer look at the numbers. >> san francisco's tenderloin is far from 10th free, but a drive through the area suggests there are fewer tents and encampments than before. and now city data backs that up ever sense. 9th circuit court appeals decision once we started to go into action, we've seen a decline of encampments over 40%. so we're really excited about what this means to the stats show. the number of tents and structures has dropped. >> from 609 in july of 2023 to 361 in april of this year. last week when i was walking around the tenderloin in some of those areas where they have been some real problems with it encampments. they're gone and you notice the big difference in how the streets look and how they feel when you walk down the streets and how much cleaner they are. and while there may be fewer tense

there, still a lot of people on the streets and because of that many who live and work in san francisco still see little change. i literally walked a gauntlet every morning from the bart station to get here to my so no, i don't see an improvement may be in different areas it is possible, but nothing. this area. the mayor says encampment outreach teams have conducted 242 operations this year. >> and made 1530 encounters with individuals of those. the city says 30% of the time the offer of shelter was accepted. 60% of the time it was refused and 10% of the time individuals were already housed. we've increased our shelter says i've been mayor by 66%. we've increased our housing options by over 50% for people on the where creating the opportunities. and we just need people on the

streets where we are offering in to accept what we're offering will encourage. san francisco's mayor is not taking a victory lap. >> she knows there's still more work to be done and she hopes the momentum will continue. in san francisco. dan kerman kron. 4 news lawmakers in proposing a bill that would prohibit grocery stores from offering. >> self checkout lanes if they don't have enough staff under this plan, self-service checkouts have to be limited to 10 purchases or fewer. and there has to be an of staff on hand to monitor the self checkout lanes. you know what it's like when you can get help. >> we have to act now to look at this problem. we want to make sure through our bill sb 14. 46 that we have a full service cashier lane will be open before allowing a self-checkout machine to we want to make sure that we have staffing ratios for one employee to to checkout machines. one worker to 12 machines is unacceptable.
