groups of men deliberately set is tow trucks on fire over the weekend. our kron four's terisa stasio has details. >> not one but 4 tow trucks. that's how many the owner of california towing says were set ablaze this past weekend. in this video, you can see a person going into the cab of the truck and then running off flames blowing out of the driver's side. we're standing in front of one of the tracks that was torched. yes. how are you? all right. sad. >> sad and. just thinking how how we start again. i mean, we've got one laugh. >> download as most says that he started california towing 9 years ago using a savings and loans from his family. he says he built a small but successful business from scratch. but now he says someone is trying to take it from him by destroying his for trucks. part drivers homes in concord and bay point.

thoughts. he sees reason for at least some hope. >> we help can only hope because of the it's been a humanitarian disaster. it gotten the attention of the world. >> professor stephen zooms points out already the rate of civilian deaths in gaza has been the highest of any conflict in the same amount of time since rwandan genocide. and now the million and a half displaced people in rafah have endured new attacks, at least israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says a delegation is being sent to continue talks. the one hand he's got a pressure from this hard right-wing ministers. you don't want any kind of real cease-fire and they starting to withdraw from his narrow coalition, which would then bring him down, require new elections. >> on the other hand, there have been tens of out in the

streets of the friends and relatives of the hostages demanding that that that he would be willing to compromise >> as for the widespread campus protests causing chaos. the professor does not think any outcome will make them go away anytime soon. but this whole process is race. a lot of awareness. >> and all the concern college students about the israeli occupation in general and the plight of the palestinians. so i think even if there is a cease-fire thinking students turned 4, we will see if still a fair amount of activism pressing end to the occupation. justice for for the the palestinians. and and so i don't think a campus activism israel and palestine is necessarily going to end. >> israeli leaders did call the terms of a proposed cease-fire deal far from meeting its demands. they warned military operations would continue. and again, those attacks are ongoing.

thank you, catherine. stay with kron. 4 on air and online for the latest information on the israel-hamas war from campus protest. >> to the war in gaza to the latest on the hostages you can head to our website kron 4 dot com. >> and back here in the bay area, 9 mountain view. residents are displaced tonight after their apartment complex caught fire sunday morning. crews responding to the three-story building on fayette arrive in san antonio road where they found flames coming from the 3rd floor. they're all tenants. they were able to get out safely. but there's extensive damage to the building estimated at a million dollars. red cross is providing temporary housing for the 9 residents from 7 burn departments. they're the cause of the fire is being investigated. 2 people including a teenager were arrested in connection to an armed robbery at a safeway in redwood city. this happened at yesterday at the safeway on camino reale employees telling police that one of the suspects had a gun while stealing alcohol surveillance

photos helped them match an 18 year-old and a 17 year-old with the crime. they were arrested less than a mile away. officers say that they found a lighter that resembled a handgun in their possession. >> highway 9 will be closing in saratoga for 3 days starting wednesday. caltrans says crews will be working on the saratoga creek bridge. the road will be closed from 9 at night until 7 o'clock in the morning. every night. construction is expected to be completed by saturday night. our 4 zone forecast. and that rain from the winter caused a lot road problems all over the bay area. but they seem really minor in comparison to some of twisters yeah, that's wreaking havoc out there. the same storm that came through here now marching across the united states. now that cold air. >> running some nice, warm, moist air across the plains. and boy, we've got more tornadoes up there tonight. so the activity once again, kind of wrapping up as the storms work their way across the united states. and here we are the country's midsection. see

all the tornado watches. couple warnings up there as well. course, texas this weekend get this. they had upwards of 17 inches. 24 inches of rain just over the weekend alone. so you can guess they've got a flood warning still extending across many of the rivers here that will continue as those waters are continuing to rise and all that water still draining down from the mountains and the hills surrounding those areas. and that's going to lead to some more flooding. so the country's midsection, that is really the target tonight as we're seeing some very strong thunderstorms just kind of ripping through there right now that we do have a couple of tornado warnings stretching across here to the north just north really oklahoma city and more of that on the way as we head through the night. really a scary night. these towers very, very large reports of tornadoes already on the ground in some spots as well. they're getting some 65 mile an hour gusts some of those thunderstorms and get this some hail about 2 inches wide and that is some dangerous stuff out there across the country's midsection. so looks like overall the heaviest activity expected here tonight. and then tomorrow that's going all slide to the

northeast. and as it moves eastward, looks like it's going to moderate somewhat not going to be as extreme as in the plains. but still there's a possibility of some more severe weather as we head toward tomorrow. but the focus taking more toward the great lakes for the south. the ohio valley see some strong storms developing there. looks like as we head toward tomorrow afternoon, more isolated than what we're seeing today. still a chance we could see some more tornado. some severe weather across that part of the country by tomorrow afternoon. guys, back to you. thank you, lawrence. tesla is continuing to lay off more employees according to business insider. the company set out yet another round of layoff notices last night. >> these layoffs are reportedly impacting the software. the service and engineering departments this time. not clear, though, how if any of these newest layoffs are going to affect bay area workers? what just last month, tesla announced that it was laying off more than 2700 bay area employees. kron four's reached out to tesla about these most recent layoffs. and we have yet to hear back. >> there is a bill in the state legislature that would

prohibit grocery or retail drugstores from offering self checkout lanes. if they do not meet certain criteria under the proposal, self-service checkouts must be limited to purchases of 10 or fewer items. and second, at least one manual checkout station must be staffed. additionally, the proposal would prohibit one employee for monitoring to self checkout lanes simultaneously. >> we have to act now to look at this problem. we want to make sure through our bill sb 14. 46 that we have a full service cashier lane will be open before allowing a self-checkout machine to open. we want to make sure that we have staffing ratios for one employee to to checkout machines. one worker to 12 machines is unacceptable. >> supporters say the bill is also designed to combat retail, seth, but the california chamber of commerce opposes the bill arguing it will lead to unnecessary strick shuns on retail,

grocery and pharmacy stores. thousands of law enforcement officers from all across the state gathered at the state capitol today. >> to pay tribute to their fallen comrades killed in the line of duty. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace was at the ceremony. shares why one of the sheriffs they're called out state leaders. >> outside the state capitol, the sound of bagpipes marks the beginning of this somber ceremony paying tribute to the more than 1700 california peace officers who died in the line of duty. on hand here about 2000 people from the law enforcement community, members of the legislature and loved ones of the fallen, all to commemorate those who never made it home. >> among those who spoke, california attorney general rob bonta. they were called to get there. >> careers and their lives to something bigger than themselves. to make the world a better. safer place.

>> governor gavin newsom did not speak at the ceremony but met with law enforcement families. and later an american flag at the peace officers memorial just across from the capitol. of course, the ceremony pays tribute to all california peace officers killed in the line of duty. but today's especially about 7 who lost their lives in recent years. among them, the late officer gonzalo carrasco junior of the selma police department in the central valley. he was shot and killed last year responding to a call just one month before the birth of his baby boy maximus. russ. but junior's family honored their forever hero. and so did police chief rudy al cross been like so many of our other people in congress. it in my xyz slowed their community. after his remarks, he spoke with us about why he hopes the people of california, appreciate the service and sacrifice of officers like gonzalo carrasco

junior. not many people can do something you are committed doing something bigger than themselves and these brave heroes did and sacrifice everything to do that. other law enforcement leaders of the tenants, including riverside county sheriff chad bianco did not shy away from criticizing state leaders while he did not name names. he argues pol cies that have come out of the legislature are too soft on crime and it made california less safe when we don't feel like we're getting the support, whether it be verbal or real from our lawmakers here in sacramento. it's it's almost like a knife in the back because we're doing everything we can to protect them. >> and we're not getting the same in return. but for this police chief today is all about remembering the fallen like carrasco junior, making sure his memory lives on forever. he'll always be with us. at the state capitol. a tonn wallace kron. 4 news. >> coming sports, a giant toward filling this afternoon with a fresh face on the

live picture outside golden gate bridge. >> you know, normally there's a lot more fog there. so kind of not a foggy day, much in the city. it's burning off because well. what do you say, sunny? all week long? yeah. almost as we're going to see that patchy fog kind of just dissipate. i think overnight tonight going to start to see the return of an offshore wind and that will be enough to kind of create things up and scoot the fog away and. >> well on the downside, that means the allergy count is likely to be on the rise out there right now. we do have some patchy fog, but as those winds switch directions that is going to bring some pollens that you may not be used to. the pollen count running high wednesday and thursday, then dropping off a little bit with the seabreeze returning on friday and saturday. all right here, the forecast for as we head through the night tonight, some patchy fog out there that we start to see a little bit of a northerly component. the wind and that starts to race that fog. so we're off and running with the sunshine tomorrow. should be a beautiful day around the bay area. sunshine and warmer temperatures all around probably moving a little bit above the any part of the bay area by the afternoon. 65

abuse scandal involving several prison officials. according to a spokesperson, all of the women have been either transferred or released. the prison was abruptly closed after 8 employees were charged with sexually abusing inmates of 5 of those employees have pleaded guilty. 2 others were convicted, including the former warden who was sentenced last year to 6 years in prison. former president trump has been fined for a 10th time and threatened with jail time for violating the gag order in his hush money trial in new york city. >> the judge presiding over the case find him $1000. while jurors heard testimony for the first time about the financial reimbursements at the center of the case. latest find comes after the former president criticized the jury selection process in a tv interview claiming without evidence to the jury was stacked with democrats. the judge imposed a gag order meant to barr, the former president for making inflammatory statements about the trial outside of court.

>> is your local election headquarters? and with election day now, just 6 months away, a new decision desk hq and newsnation poll. it shows how voters reallyp feel about the problems at the southern border and how the issue continues to emerge as a defining issue for the presidential race. when asked about 4 different issues and which one stood out as a bigger problem. almost half of registered voters polled said inflation, a 30% pointed to the border. and as far as how to take on the issue, 30% favored shutting down the border. 18% pushed for building a wall close behind at 16% of voters like to expand in green card and visa availability or prioritizing funding for federal border agencies and almost half of those polled believe that former president donald trump to be the best candidate to deal with the border issue. well, 26% say that joe biden can deal with it. you can read
