to address it. the leader of berkeley public schools in the hot seat over claims of anti-semitism in the class room. parents have a lot to say about her testimony. >> our superintendent is the only person testifying that could not just flat out say we have an anti-semitism problem. >> we reject the in addition there is an antiseem ant -- anti-semitism issue here. there is nothing like relaxing with a glass of wine. there may be more of it to go around. that is the latest crop report. napa valley produced $1 billion of wine grapes last year. 35% increase from the year before. but, it is not only about supply. it is also

about demand. our wilson walker has the story of two wine regions and how they are adjusting to a changing industry. you know accident , if you had the patience you could watch it grow. it might grow over an inch or more. >> reporter: he is keeping an eye on the winery 2024 vintage here in the earliest formation. if it is anything like '23 there will be a lot of it. >> we had a phenomenal vintage in 2023. >> reporter: what is happening in the wine industry is a story many years in the making. that includes years that were not so productive. >> you know, we had the fires in '17, fires in '20. short those years and drought years, we made much less than we normally would. >> reporter: when the rain finally returned, demand for grapes was still on the rise and the times in wine country

were as good as ever. >> we went from 2020, one of the toughest years from us, to two years later to the best year we have ever had. we had a real build up. so, everyone was wanting grapes. >> it is a tough decision to pull out grapevines. >> reporter: they are pulling their vines from the ground reflect an industry that hit a pocket of uncertainty after decades of steady growth, wine consumption plateaued or started to decline by some measures. so, supply is up while demand is heading the other direction. while industry giants in napa might be slightly insulated from this, davie says yes, the industry is changing. >> we were blessed with people my age, you know, drinking wine. they have been loyal, the boomers discovered wine. >> reporter: younger drinkers may not be shifting towards

wine like their parents did. something he says can happen. >> we may have to talk to them in a different way. and i think that is upon our industry to learn how we talk to this new generation. it is our job. i mean in deed we are having declining consumption, you know, that is up to us. our industry to do something about that. >> drought, rainy years, fire years, we talked about cycles and consumption. >> sure, sure. >> it is all just part of the business. >> just part of the business. it will be my 45th harvest here at this winery. we have gone through so many cycles over the years. when the 60 minute story broke, you know, when was that, 30 plus years ago and the french paradox, red wine sored overnight. sideways came out.

merlo went down and everyone planted the other. things are always changing. we don't know what future supply is going to look like if it gets too hot or too cold they can lose 20% of this year's crop. something else interesting that davie says after a big year like last year when the vines do a lot of work they can be tired. they can not produce that many grapes two years in a row. things might dip a little bit. one constant is change, that goes for the wine industry as well. >> demand is shifting across the country. according to a report u.s. wine makers sold 368 million, down from 450 million cases three years ago. now, to our weather, a warm and windy evening. tomorrow should be hotter. paul heggen is here with all of the details, paul? >> yes. cloud free conditions. not even a hint of the fog along the coast the winds are noticeable but sustained winds right now, you look at the map.

okay, not that breezy. strongest sustained wind right now. there are higher gusts, mainly in the 20-30 mile-an-hour range. all the reporting stations are closer to sea level. oakland hills, east bay hills had a 37 mile-an-hour gust within the last 30 minutes or so. 40-45 mile-an-hour, gusts are still possible heading through the rest of this evening and tonight. primarily in the interior mountains of the north bay. wind advisory continues, usually the off shore wind equates to higher fire threat. we had a descent amount of rain by early may standards just four days ago. we are not looking at an off the charts fire threat. temperatures warming up, backing down on the coast. backing down to 59 degrees at half moon bay making it to the 70 earlier in the day. still in the 70s. holding on to 80 degrees in hayward. warmer temperatures in store for us tomorrow. we will take a look at how long it will last

coming up. >> paul, thank you. three educators facing questions about claims of anti-semitism at our schools, john ramos spoke to a parent who traveled to washington, d.c. after she felt her son was being threatened at school. >> reporter: berkeley sees itself as a model of tolerance and diversity. it is uncomfortable for the school district to be accused on a national stage of being rampidly anti-semitic. >> you are recognized for five minutes. >> only three people testified at the hearing on school anti-semitism. berkeley unified superintendent was one of them. >> since october 7th, the district has had formal complaints alleging anti-semitism rising from 9 within our jurisdiction, however, anti-semitism is not persuasive in berkeley unified school district. >> she could not say we have a

problem. could not do it. that was a punch to the gut. >> reporter: she has a jewish student at berkeley high that had to leave art class when anti-israel poster art. >> dozens of students have been pulled out of classrooms when they complained about anti-semitism. that is wrong. so, my son included he spent a week in the health center and library because there was nowhere to put him. >> reporter: across the bay area there are attempts to hold tech-ins about gaza that are condemning of israel's actions. some say the angst towards israel is extending to hatred of jews, one walk out at berkeley high, some students chanted "kill the jews" another parent in the district rejects that as a lie. liz jackson, who is also jewish and supports the palestinians, says the complaints of anti-semitism are coming from a small vocal group of parents. >> we reject the notion there

is an anti-semitic climate here. with this small handful of parents are complaining about is political discomfort. and political discomfort is different than unsafe. >> reporter: jackson says she is comfortable leaving instruction of the conflict up to the teachers and says she is confident that students can process information without it turning to hate. >> the hearings this morning had nothing to do with the well being or safety of jewish students. it was about a right wing attack on education, a right wing attempt to censure information. >> reporter: the first casualty in any war is the truth. where the truth lies in gaza is a matter of perspective and not something that is going to come out of a class room. >> just today, another civil rights complaint filed against

busd, discrimination against palestinian and muslim student. president biden is taking its toughest stance with israel. he said he will not supply bombs to its long standing ally if israel attacks rafah, it is a densely populated city where millions taken up shelter. but israel says it is hamas' last strong hole. president bidden and the first ahead will be in the bay area. the last time the president visited was in february. pro-palestinian protesters showed up near one of his events in san francisco pacific heights. pete mccloski died at age 96. he represented san mateo county. a liberal republican, a maverick that clashed with

members of his own party. we caught up with him in 2018 when he was helping register latinos to vote. he was the co-founder on earth day, supported abortion rights and stem cell research. he was known for his anti-war advocacy. even though he served in the military. he changed his party affiliation to democrat in 2007. we dug up this video of our archives of the congressman chopping down a power line where they were campaign to have power lines recruited. he died of congestive heart failure in his home in winters, california. coming up, he dreamed of becoming a firefighter since he was a kid. now he gets to do it with his dad right by his side. >> i looked up to my dad for a long time. to reach this spot it is just meaningful to me. >> meet the father/son dueo who get to ride around in a fire

it is a scene out of a mission impossible movie playing out on union square. they repelled down the side of the grand hyatt. part of their city skyline challenge to raise money for the san francisco nonprofit. we saw drag queens, social media influencers, a couple in a vail and tuxedo, t-shirt before they get married. all making the 36 story descent down to the plaza behind the apple store. the couple by the way, well, they

are saying "i do" this friday. a family affair in one northern california fire department. we are talking about yuba city. an hour's drive north of sacramento where a father and son are fighting flames together. >> i finally asked him. he admitted he was going through the process. but he said, dad, i don't want your help, i don't want you to tell anybody i want to do it on my own. >> fire captain kennedy has been on the job for two years and for the last three months he has been working with his son, chase, who surprised his dad about the application process. >> it is surreal. i have seen him work before. he knows i have been in the fire service before but now to be together and working in the same department it is really, really cool. >> reporter: chase has an older brother who works for sacramento city fire and chase says he knew he wanted to be a firefighter from as early on as

he can remember. his dad serving as an inspiration. >> at a young age he started saying he wanted to be a firefighter, a lot of kids say they want to be this and that. as he got older and every year or two he would continue to repeat that mantra. this is what he was going to do. >> i don't think i knew what it meant as a little kid but growing up it a lied with my values and what i like to do. it is my dream job. >> this is what it would be like? >> it is what it would be like. >> he looks cute back there. >> for city guidelines they can not always work directly together but their paths cross often. >> all scratched up. >> i looked up to my dad for a long time. to reach this spot, it is just meaningful to me, i guess. >> i am glad i was able to still be around and on the job

to see this happen. i am getting close to the end of my career. >> my time here will continue through him and he will get to carry on that legacy here in yuba city. >> that is a sweet story. all right, let's head over to paul heggen for the weather. you know, paul, my kids do not want to be news broadcasters. people always ask me. >> you did something right, then [ laughter ] >> you are right, you are right [ laughter ] look at weatherwise, we had clear skies across the bay area, not a cloud in the sky. that is the influence of those offshore winds that allow the temperatures to warm up to a greater extent. afternoon highs, 5-15 degrees above where we topped out on tuesday. the warmer temperatures are still in store for us on tuesday. a moderate heat risk. not a huge cause for concern. just don't over do it. common sense stuff. temperatures going to back down around the bay. late tomorrow and on friday and saturday.

back down to near normal temperatures this weekend. inland temperatures are going to continue to remain well above normal into the first half of the weekend backing down a little bit by sunday and monday. let's take a look at the relative humidity levels, low this afternoon. but, here is the good news, the low humidity levels did not over lap with the strongest winds continuing, as the winds pick back up tonight the strongest winds will not go with the strongest humidity levels. not bounce back a lot but enough. we don't have to worry about it drying out rapidly. humidity drops tomorrow. the winds will decree tomorrow afternoon and shifting directions. here is the return of the onshore wind. temperatures across the coast are going to go from above normal levels early afternoon back down to may levels by this time tomorrow evening. enjoy the warmth. it is still here right now. temperatures as we look out. still in the 70s. 77 degrees in san francisco. not the cool spot for a change. 75 degrees in livermore is the

least warm spot of the map. everybody is within 3 degrees of everyone else. the temperatures dropping down mostly to the 50s. the warmest locations, in the north bay, winds are going to be stronger. dropping down to the lower 60s. in napa and fairfield. temperatures in the middle to upper 80s. middle to upper 80s in the east bay. temperatures around the bay, 85 degrees in fremont, 86 degrees for redwood city. the temperatures above normal. not record setting. middle 70s along the coast for half moon bay. below 80s in san francisco in early afternoon. by this time tomorrow evening the temperatures will be 15-20 degrees cooler than tomorrow's day time high. it will be a drop off of the cliff once we peak in san francisco. temperatures in the north bay are going to reach up to the middle to upper 80s. heat risk, in the moderate category in the valley, inland, east bay, parts

of the north bay. higher elevations, but, the moderate risk means just the most sensitive folks to any heat-related health concerns are going to have to exercise caution. everybody else, should be good to go. a big turn around from where the temperatures were. cold and rainy on saturday. as warm as we are going to be, records are safe. records in the 90s. 80 degrees for half moon bay. falling short of that. temperatures in san francisco, half moon bay. cooler for the end of the workweek on friday. temperatures peak on friday, we will be short of record territory to finish off the workweek. let's take a look at the forecast. including the retreat from the warmest temperatures. still, lower 80s inland, sunday, monday, below normal for the first half of may. temperatures will be back to almost exactly normal by sunday and monday. we will be back in the back and forth fog pattern by that time as well.

. these days young people are under more and more pressure to have perfect skin. tiktok trend of kids showing their skin care routines, my gosh, tonight, a california lawmaker is banning stores from selling certain antiaging skin care products to children under the aiming of 13. alex lee told us tonight if the bill is passed it could force stores to post warnings or require id checks for purchase. some of the products can be damaging to young complexions. also, they are not necessary. >> and your kid, everything in your skin is working perfectly. it has a mechanism in place to exfoliate, to turnover, to do all of the things it is supposed to do. you don't need expensive fancy skin care. >> 100%. this proposal is a
