everyone. >> i'm rhiannon ally, and i'm andrew dymburt. we begin with a new round of deadly storms, reported tornadoes touching down in the u.s. for the 14th consecutive day. >> this time, at least three people have been killed across tennessee and north carolina. this morning, the days long severe weather outbreak has left a trail of destruction across yet another region of the u.s. violent tornado, violent tornado . multiple tornadoes reported in tennessee last night, killing at least one person in maury county. video from above reveals the power of the storm, weather radar indicates the tornado lifted debris 20,000ft into the air, trapping people in damaged homes and flipping over. this vehicle on interstate 65 north of knoxville, the sheriff in claiborne county says a man was killed when his car was hit by a falling tree. a tornado also hitting communities around clarksville in arkansas. this ef two twister was caught on camera

in hot springs, 30 teen tornadoes were spotted in seven states yesterday alone, marking the 14th consecutive day that a twister has touched down in the u.s. a state of emergency also declared in gaston county, north carolina, last night where a powerful storm took down highway signs and power lines. one person was killed by a falling tree. >> if you go by sims park, the winds were so strong that it blew the wall down. so there's a lot that's happened here in gaston county. there were catastrophic. >> the highest risk for tornadoes today will be in alabama and georgia. we will check the forecast out in just a few moments. >> a major hospital system with facilities in 19 states is the latest target of an apparent cyber attack. ascension says the attack has disrupted its clinical operations. health care partners were told to cut off connections to the company's system while the attack is being investigated. earlier this year, united health care reported a ransomware attack that disrupted payments for months. a new whistleblower is coming forward, raising quality concerns for

boeing. this time, it's a former worker at a supplier for boeing, santiago perez was an inspector at spirit aerosystems, he tells the bbc he found up to 200 defects in the fuselages that were made for boeing 737 max jets. he says he was even nicknamed showstopper because his concerns would often delay deliveries. >> they weren't focused on on the consequences of shipping bad fuselages. they were just focused on meeting the quotas, meeting the schedule meeting, the budget meeting the numbers. >> his claims are part of a shareholder lawsuit. the company, which is not affiliated with spirit airlines, says it disagrees with the allegations and is committed to improving safety standards. >> we turn now to the economy and a new interview on the campaign trail in wisconsin. president biden claims he'd already turned around the economy, but his critics take issue with that claim. abc's em nguyen is here now with more on this and good morning rhiannon. >> good morning. polls show

president biden is struggling on the issue, but he insists the economy is strong. in a new interview, president biden was asked whether he can improve the economy before november's election. >> are you worried that you're running out of time to turn that around? >> we've already turned it around. look, when i started this administration, people were saying they're going to be a collapse of the economy. we have the strongest economy in the world. let me say it again. >> in the world, polls show a majority of americans give biden poor marks for his handling of the economy. biden says those polls are wrong. the president was back in battleground wisconsin yesterday, unveiling a $3 billion investment by microsoft at the same location where former president trump promoted an investment by electronics giant foxconn, which later went bust. >> he's never succeeded in creating jobs, and i've never failed. i've created over 15 million jobs other than herbert

hoover is the only other president who lost more jobs than created trump's campaign. >> responding, saying biden has driven inflation and interest rates so high that millions of hard working families struggle to make ends meet. biden falsely claimed that inflation was 9% when he took office. >> it was 9% when i came to office, 9% inflation was actually 1.4% when biden was sworn in, peaking at 9.1% in june 2022. >> it has since come down to 3.5, preventing a further drop. housing costs in new york city, one survey found rent is rising seven times faster than wages in california, a condo in west hollywood just sold for a record smashing $24 million. food costs also playing a role. grocery prices are up 26% since 2019, and fast food prices are up 33. many consumers saying enough is enough. >> i don't mean to be broke, but for an eight count mini and a lemonade for $18.

>> i joked that this was fine dining now because i might as well go at a sit down restaurant and be served if i'm going to pay those type of prices. >> mcdonald's and starbucks have seen a downturn in sales as more customers watch their spending. chains like applebee's and ihop are planning more promotions in hopes of attracting those diners . >> andrew m, thank you. meanwhile, president biden says the u.s. will not supply bombs for israel to attack rafah in southern gaza, where more than a million palestinians are sheltering. biden confirmed his administration has paused a shipment of bombs. israel's government is reportedly frustrated. biden insists the u.s. is committed to israel's defense, but will not support a full scale invasion of rafah if they go into rafah. >> i'm not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with rafah, but i've made it clear to bibi and the war cabinet they're not going to get our support if in fact they go in these population centers

and some republicans are slamming the decision, saying it could embolden israel's enemies. >> former president trump's hush money trial will resume today with stormy daniels back on the stand. the defense is trying to chip away at her credibility after her salacious testimony about an alleged sexual encounter with trump. meanwhile, an appeals court in georgia has agreed to hear trump's argument. the da fani willis should be disqualified from the election interference case, likely delaying that trial past the election in. trump's youngest son has been chosen to serve as a delegate for the republican national convention this summer. barron trump is 18 years old, a campaign official says. barron is very interested in the political process for the second time in as many days, a major resignation at the miss usa organization. >> now miss teen usa, is giving back her crown, raising more questions about how the organization is being run. new jersey. after miss teen usa 2023 is

relinquishing her crown. 17 year old uma sophia srivastava stepping away from the role, saying i find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization. the 11th grader announcing she'll focus instead on her advocacy for education and acceptance. >> i didn't always feel accepted , which is why i wrote my children's book, the white jaguar, and i was able to make it multilingual to represent my cultures, and i want to share the message to empower people to embrace what makes them unique. >> her announcement comes just two days after miss usa noelia voight gave up her crown, citing her mental health. voight releasing a statement on instagram, her eagle eyed followers spotting a hidden message. the first letters of each sentence spells i am silenced. voight's former social media director spoke out on good morning america, describing a toxic environment at the miss usa organization, which oversees both miss usa and miss teen usa. >> it was a series of aggressive behaviors towards the titleholders and also the

employees. >> the miss usa organization calls the accusations false, saying miss usa is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. the departing miss teen usa did not elaborate on her claims about the organization's values. >> time now for a look at your thursday weather. >> good morning. we're dealing with another round of severe weather yet again this afternoon and evening. it's been relentless lately in parts of the central u.s. this time around, the mid-atlantic states and parts of the south, big hail in texas, damaging wind and hail, even isolated tornadoes possible in between some of these larger clusters of storms this thursday. on friday, this is going to be a little more localized to alabama, georgia and north florida. still with some damaging wind and hail potential with an isolated tornado. for some, i'm accuweather meteorologist jeff cornish. >> coming up, the flight attendants charged with smuggling millions in drug

that's how the head of the dea is describing the overdose epidemic right now. and she has some eye opening figures. here's abc's andrea fujii with more this morning. >> the dea is sounding the alarm, warning congress that social media and other technology has made it easier than ever for americans to get illegal drugs within 2 or 3 clicks on a smartphone, people are having pills delivered to their front doorstep, like uber eats, like they get pizza delivered. the dea administrator calling the drug epidemic a national tragedy, responsible for killing 22 teenagers in the u.s. every week, the agency is asking congress for more funding to invest in technology to better track drugs entering the country. we are committed to using the best technology we can, andcay personal feeling is we cannot allow the speed of crime to move faster than the speed of government. >> we have to be agile. >> the effects of this crisis are felt across generations. more than 321,000 children in the u.s. lost a parent to a drug

overdose between 2011 to 2021, a rate that nearly doubled from the previous decade. fentanyl is now a leading cause of drug deaths. agents in the last year seized more than 79 million fake pills laced with fentanyl, mainly supplied by mexican cartels. but the flow of drug money extends far beyond the border. just this week, four airline flight attendants were charged with helping to smuggle nearly $8 million of drug money out of the u.s. to the dominican republic. the suspects, two of whom worked for delta, allegedly took advantage of their crew member status to avoid security at new york's jfk airport. when it comes to fentanyl, the dea says it arrested more than 3300 dealers last year alone, and nearly half the drug sales were linked to social media. rhiannon andrew. >> all right, andrea, thank you. the former interpreter for baseball star shohei ohtani has pleaded guilty in the nearly $17 million fraud case against him.
